Back to Vietnam

We last went to Vietnam 3 years ago and had a fantastic time. On that visit we only had time to explore what used to be South Vietnam. We sailed down the Mekong from Phom Penn in Cambodia and spent a few days in Ho Chi Mihn City (Saigon). From there we caught a plane up to Hue and then worked our way down the South China Sea coastline; stopping at Hoi An, Nah Trang and Mui Ne.

The high light of that trip for me was the Cu Chi Tunnels, which where about an hours drive from Ho Chi Minh City. As a teenager I had become fascinated with the Vietnam/American conflict even though I was only 1 when the war ended and obviously had no personal recollection of it myself. Of all the things I had read about the war it was the Cu Chi Tunnels that had always fascinated me the most. It was such a thrill and to see the real thing.

Vietnam was a great country and it was always disappointing that we didn't have enough time to see anything of the North, in particular Hanoi and Halong Bay. Later today we make our way back to Vietnam for a two week look at the North . . . can't wait!

  1. Hi Guys,
Welcome to Vietnam! It's all looking amazing and no need to ask if you are having a great time. I'm glad you've settled into travelling very well indeed. Thank-you for the birthday messages and of course for the lovely pressie. I've had full on pampering, so it was ideal. So lovely to hear from you too. All is well here, just a week left at work which is scary but in a very good way(?!) Take care both and look forward to seeing your next set of photos. Jo xx PS Simon send his love too and Flo has asked when Uncle Si will be coming back for a cuddle and a read of Heat! xx
