All that glitters is gold!

On Monday we headed of out to see the Grand Palace, which is the former residence of the Thai King, and Wat Phra Kaew, home of the Emerald Buddha, one of the most sacred objects in Thai Buddhism.

Wat Phra Kaew is one of the most amazing places we've ever been to. The buildings and temples are the most lavishly decorated, with every inch of every surface covered in gold, glass, mirrors, porcelain and gems. The pictures below don't really do it justice.

Just over the road from Wat Phra Kaew and the Grand Palace is another important Buddhist site, Wat Pho. This features the largest reclining Buddha at 46m long and is covered in gold leaf. The soles of it's feet are inlaid with mother of pearl.

Whilst we were there they were re-tiling one of the roofs of the surrounding buildings and for a small donation you could leave a message on a tile. Being as we had been married exactly 6 months on the day we though we would leave one of our own. . .

I'm gonna be so jealous when you get to Halong Bay. We have our photo from there up in the kitchen.
    Stay safe.
